Victoria announces "massive" upgrade to one of its busiest hospitals
Dandenong Hospital, currently one of Victoria’s busiest, will receive a $305 million redevelopment, the state government has announced.
Nine new operating theatres, a new Intensive Care Unit with 16 beds and an upgraded day surgery admissions space will be delivered as part of the upgrade.
Designs are currently being finalised and will incorporate expert advice from the hospital’s clinicians, the government said.
For continuity of patient care, Dandenong Hospital will remain operational throughout the redevelopment, the Victorian Health Building Authority working closely with Monash Health to minimise disruption.
“We’re making sure it is easy for families in Melbourne’s south east to get the care they need, closer to home,” Victoria’s Minister for Health Infrastructure Melissa Horne said.
“The bigger and better Dandenong Hospital will support the growing community for decades to come.”
The redevelopment is part of the Hospital Infrastructure Delivery Fund, which is currently supporting three major projects — the Northern Hospital redevelopment and Austin Hospital Emergency Department upgrade, and the Monash Medical Centre Tower expansion.
Early work will begin later this year.
