32-bed specialist private mental health hospital opens today

Avive Clinic Melbourne opened its doors in Alphington on 17 August 2026. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses and allied health professionals, the 32-bed specialist private mental health hospital will provide voluntary inpatient care, private psychiatrist consulting and outpatient day programs. It will support adults experiencing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma-related conditions, and other complex mental health presentations.

Located in one of Melbourne’s fastest growing catchments — with one million residents and 500,000 new residents forecast by 2046 — the facility has been designed to be gradually expanded over time, with capacity to add an additional 28 beds as community needs grow.

Four purpose-built group therapy rooms, five onsite consulting suites, two transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment suites, dedicated therapy spaces and landscaped gardens are among its facilities, patients receiving care in a contemporary therapeutic environment featuring private single rooms with ensuites, and access to advanced treatment pathways, creating continuity of care before, during and after admission.

Avive Clinic Melbourne is Avive Health Care’s third hospital and its second in Victoria, following the opening of the 60-bed Avive Clinic Mornington Peninsula in Mount Eliza in December 2023. The 1725 square metre premises is owned by the Australian Unity Healthcare Property Trust and is leased to Avive under a long-term 25-year agreement. Originally built as an aged care facility, the property has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment and reconfiguration for specialist mental health care.
