Investment in new Bankstown Hospital reaches record $2 billion
The NSW Government has announced that, as part the NSW Budget, the planned new Bankstown Hospital will receive an additional $700 million investment. It brings the build’s total to $2 billion and marks the largest capital works investment in a public hospital in the state’s history. It is expected that the new Bankstown Hospital will include: an ED; intensive care; operating theatres; surgical and medical services; services for women and children, including maternity; mental health; parking; and other services to be identified as planning progresses. To be located on Chapel Road, Bankstown (currently TAFE NSW), construction is expected to start 2026 — after the relocation of TAFE NSW.
The existing Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital site will remain as a health facility and be integrated with the new hospital, to deliver contemporary health care and a better healthcare experience across a broad range of community and hospital-based services. “One of the best things about Australia is its healthcare. It’s why we’re ensuring we continue to deliver quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services,” NSW Premier Chris Minns said. “That starts with hospitals. The new Bankstown Hospital has been a long time coming and while there is still a long way to go, this extra funding is a big step in the right direction to getting shovels in the ground and the hospital up and running.”
