Helen eHealthQueensland Health nurse Helen Murray has combined her patient care skills with the world of e-Health and been honoured with a top ICT award.
Helen, a Project Director and Registered Nurse, was chosen as the winner of the ICT Outstanding Achievement Award by respected industry association, Women in Technology.
The award recognises Helen for improving the delivery of health services across Queensland through the innovative use of information technology.
At the Health Services Information Agency of Queensland Health, Helen is responsible for The Viewer, a highly respected state-wide web-based view of patient information from specialty and clinical systems across Queensland Health.
“The Viewer has enabled a more comprehensive picture of a patient’s clinical history,” Helen said. “This ultimately provides clinicians with more information essential to clinical decisions they make about the care of their patients.
“Bringing all this information into one place saves clinicians valuable time and gives them more direct patient contact.
“It is the only system in a state health department that provides a comprehensive statewide view of a patient’s admissions, emergency presentations, pathology, radiology reports, medications, alerts and adverse reactions and procedure reports.
“Today, The Viewer has over 26,000 users and more than 1,000,000 views.”
Helen is now working on the design for a mobile version of The Viewer to ensure clinicians can access clinical information on the run.
“Nursing and ICT is a unique combination, so I made sure I kept up my nursing accreditation while undertaking a Graduate Certificate in ICT at Griffith University.
Helen remains passionate about clinical redesign to improve care delivery and the role e-Health has in more efficient and comprehensive care.
“e-Health is now a reality for Queenslanders and for anyone cared for by Queensland Health,” she said.
