Funds Injected into Victorian eHealth Systems
Friday, 31 October, 2014
AMA Victoria has welcomed a funding direction to eHealth by Health Minister David Davis.
“This much needed eHealth funding injection will reach health services across the state. It includes a significant funding boost of $40m to Monash Health which will enable the integration of a patient’s electronic medical record with medication management. This system overhaul will improve patient care,“ AMA Victoria President, Dr Tony Bartone said.
“These are important technological upgrades. Our health system is first rate in respect to treatment, safety, universal access, and the competency and expertise of the treating doctors, nurses and Allied Health workers – however, the IT systems relied upon by hospitals and GP clinics must never be forgotten, and they need to be brought up to speed, as eHealth ultimately improves patient care and make the health system work smarter and more efficiently, “ Dr Bartone said.
Along with Monash Health, Minister Davis has directed eHealth funding to the following health services:
- Alfred Health: $7.1 million towards the upgrade of a patient administration system, which has been in place for more than 20 years old.
- Grampians Rural Health Alliance: $4.3 million to develop and implement shared electronic medical records and health information exchange across the Grampians region.
- South West Area Regional Health: $2.55 million to accelerate the adoption of electronic medical record functionality including electronic medication management.
- Gippsland Health Alliance: $5.6 million for the implementation of electronic clinical documentation and electronic medication management systems into GHA’s four largest hospitals.
- Merri Community Health Service: $2.4 million towards a shared services model for five community health agencies - Merri, Darebin, Dianella, Inner South and North Richmond.
- Mildura Base Hospital: $945,000 towards the replacement of an old patient administration system.
- Hume Rural Health Alliance: $8.5 million for a replacement patient administration system.
