Hospital and aged care facilities reduce costs & boost caregiver time efficiencies with longer-lasting battery solutions for patient-handling equipment

In a world that faces tremendous future healthcare challenges with a notable decrease in caregivers and a steady rise in Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) — time and efficiency are essential. That is why the products placed in healthcare applications must ease caregivers’ daily work while helping maintain a high level of hygiene. The new range of batteries from LINAK has been developed to meet these challenges.

As the number of advanced features in patient care and handling equipment, for instance, hospital and aged care beds and patient lifters, increases, the need for a robust and long-lasting power backup increases. For manufacturers interested in long-term and cost-efficient battery solutions for hospital applications, LINAK® offers lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery solutions that play right into the modern actuator system for healthcare applications.

The long-term, cost-effective solution

LINAK solutions are known for their flexibility, with all parts fitting together across the portfolio. The products themselves are hallmarked by their durability and minimal need for maintenance throughout a long lifetime.

Able to maintain full capacity through at least 500 recharge cycles, the LINAK Li-Ion batteries have a lifetime of approximately four times longer than a traditional lead acid battery.

Batteries full of intelligent features

Charging commences as soon as the application, or the battery charger is connected to mains power, and at the same time, safety features inside the battery prevent deep discharge or overheating.

Furthermore, all batteries come with service data logging as standard — this means it always knows the current temperature and counts the number of recharge cycles at any given time.

When hygiene is paramount

Through streamlined design with a minimum of grooves and edges and an IP degree of IPX6 and IPX6 washable for LIFT50, all batteries are designed with easy and fast cleaning in mind, and smart cable management makes it easy to wipe all systems efficiently and effectively, ensuring a high hygiene level is maintained.

Reduced environmental impact

LINAK believes in ‘going green’, and with lithium-ion technology, we embrace just that. Our range of lithium-ion batteries reduces the environmental footprint compared to conventional lead-acid batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries produce less waste due to the up to four times longer product life. The LINAK Li-Ion technology offers a long-lasting battery capacity, a 40% weight reduction, and a longer battery lifetime. Subsequently, less transportation of batteries in total means a considerable reduction of CO2 emissions compared to conventional batteries.

Optimisation in healthcare

You will have a low-weight solution with easy battery replacement by adding lithium-ion batteries. The result is optimised workflows and stable lifting performances in medical applications — improving ergonomics for healthcare professionals worldwide.

The BA19, BA21 and BAL50 batteries were developed especially for medical applications to support caregivers who work with mobile and adjustable equipment and perform frequent and often significant lifting. With LINAK Li-Ion batteries, the common denominator is an optimised working environment and stable and high-performing equipment with constant and long-lasting battery power.

LIFT50

With the latest development and technologies available, the new LIFT50 Li-Ion battery takes the efficiencies and safety of mobile applications to the next level.

BAL50 battery pack

The BAL50 is the next-generation Li-Ion battery offering high performance and improved return on investment due to its long lifetime. The BAL50 Li-Ion battery pack is part of the LIFT50™ product series, specially developed for patient lifts and other mobile applications such as stretchers, trolleys and shower commodes.

Thanks to its Li-Ion technology, the BAL50 battery is lighter, smaller and more ergonomically friendly than conventional lead-acid batteries. In addition to its extended lifetime, the reduced weight and size allow you to change it using just one hand, improving the efficiencies and the well-being of the carers.

A greener profile

The environmental footprint of lithium-ion batteries is low. At lifetime’s end, only one battery, rather than five, needs to be recycled. Transportation-incurred CO2 is also reduced because of the low battery weight, which is half that of lead-acid batteries.

LINAK go the extra mile for efficiencies and preparation

At LINAK, safety is a way of life, and we are committed to helping our customers produce the safest possible products on the market.

One of the biggest concerns with battery-operated equipment is whether it will work when required, primarily if it has not been used for a while or has been in storage waiting to be commissioned.

With the new LIFT50 technology, this has been addressed by LINAK with a development to the COL50 standby power consumption

The new improvements now increase the standby time of COL50 from:

Circa 34 days to more than 365 days when leaving the system with the battery mounted and no mains connected.

Ensuring that your mobile equipment is always ready for use.
