Ramsay Health Care Australia faces charges following patient death

Ramsay Health Care Australia Pty Ltd is facing two charges following the death of a patient at Mitcham Private Hospital.

WorkSafe Victoria charged the health care provider under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act — for failing to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, that persons other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

In November 2023, while undergoing treatment in the hospital’s perinatal mental health unit, the patient took their own life.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 6 November 2025.
