Ramsay's reusable rigid containers to aid reforestation

A pilot program at North West Private Hospital in Queensland has facilitated 446 trees to be planted in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, so far, in exchange for the rigid containers purchased from medical device supplier B. Braun.

North West Private is replacing large quantities of sterile wrap that surgical instruments are typically wrapped in after being sterilised, with re-usable rigid containers, as part of its sustainability initiatives.

Sue Panuccio, Ramsay Australia National Environment Manager, said this pilot of four sites follows on from initiatives in the Sunshine Coast hub and South East Queensland which introduced the concept as part of a major review of how they operate.

“This initiative is a significant step forward in Ramsay’s sustainability efforts,” Panuccio said.

“Along with the obvious benefits for the planet, we are also seeing financial benefits through making the switch to reusable rigid containers.

“Once the four pilot sites are up and running there will be a review of the performance and, based on that, we hope to expand across more sites.”

The Carbon Neutral Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor Project contributes to the native species biodiverse reforestation located in the South Western Australian Ecoregion. The goal is to restore 100,000 hectares of degraded land and mitigate the climate crisis.
