Climate Change is Bad For Your Health

The Australian Academy of Science (AAS) yesterday released a report detailing its concerns on the effects of climate change on Australians by the end of the century. Key concerns identified were weather; food and water availability; and jobs and livelihoods,
However the sick, the elderly, the very young and the poor will be most affected by climate change because of our modern way of life of interconnectivity, leaving us exposed to infectious disease and the increasing temperatures that encourage bacteria to spread and grow. Combined with nutrition restrictions, these groups who already struggle with weakened immune systems will be competing with the larger population group for access to healthcare.
The wide-reaching effects of these findings has led the AAS in calling for more interdisciplinary resources in approaching our study into the effects of Climate Change. We are no longer just looking at environmental changes but demographic, epidemiological and economic ramifications of a phenomenon that is past debate: it is in the stages of management.
The AAS prepared the report as a summary of discussions and recommendations from early and mid-career researchers who met in 2014. You can view the report and its recommendations.
