Australia questions unnecessary medical tests
Tuesday, 29 September, 2015
Last night ABC's 4Corners screened a report on the growing practice of patients receiving tests, scans and procedures deemed 'needless' by industry spokespeople. A growing concern for the industry, with the NPS MedicineWise campaign having grown momentum in 2015 urging patients to arm themselves with the knowledge and confidence to question healthcare providers on the necessity of treatment through antibiotics, radiation therapy and tests and scans that can be ineffective and lead to long-term harm.

MedicineWise also provides advice for practitioners on recommendations specific to their specialty, procedure or test.

The 4Corners report will be re-screened throughout the week and available on iView, and is an interesting look at the industry temperature and what the public is being told on the topic.
