Coviu, Tonic team up to improve virtual waiting room experience

Coviu and Tonic Media Network have partnered to deliver a virtual health and wellness literacy waiting room for patients attending online care consultations with doctors and clinicians.

Designed together by the video telehealth solution and digital health network, the virtual room is designed to greet patients with video content prior to their appointments. The clips on display relay to patients relative health advice, wellbeing exercises and lifestyle programming as they wait for their telehealth consultation.

The service has been designed as a tool to prepare patients with health and wellbeing knowledge and aims to produce an environment relative to physical clinician waiting rooms.

The companies claim engaging customers through content in the waiting room encourages patients to remain engaged, saying video engagement leads to higher attentive levels during the appointment and facilitates communication and collaboration between practitioners and patients.

Dr Joanne Thorburn, Clinical Psychologist at Embodied Psychology, said, “Our virtual care clients are often coming from other things and can be distracted when they log on for their consultation. Introducing a virtual waiting room that is more than just boring music has allowed us to create an engaging and welcoming experience that helps to focus our clients and get them prepared for the consultation. It also sets the expectation that while your clinician may not be there right when you log on, the time is not wasted and there are options for you to learn and relax.”

Content is chosen in line with the practitioner’s goal of overall health and wellbeing, with the intent to promote healthy lifestyle choices, self-care techniques and mental health resources.

“The very first interaction a patient has with a medical practice is often in the waiting room, and we believe that making this a positive space in a virtual setting is just as important as it is to make your physical waiting room look nice,” Silvia Pfeiffer, CEO of Coviu, said.

The service introduced by Coviu and Tonic Media Network connects customers with the network of patient virtual health care.
